Monitor does not show images in focus

\015 I apologize for this if it is a stupid question, but I could have sworn that you can view potential images on the lcd monitor before taking a picture. I know that you can review photos once taken, but I had hoped to see the possible shot throght the monitor. \302\240Is this possible with the D80?Thanks and Merry Christmas!dvr\015

Not a stupid question, on other low end "point-and-shoot" cameras that is the norm especially if there isn't a viewfinder to look thru to compose the shoot or determine the focal point, which is the reason you buy a DSLR camera, it's more professional and you use the viewfinder info as well as the menu items on the LCD when shooting. You can view your shots immediately after and then determine if you need to shoot again. Just like the older film cameras with the advantage that you don't have to wait to process your pictures to find out someone blinked or that it just wan't well composed. Enjoy your new camera and celebrate your moving into taking better photos. Holding the camera away looking at the viewfinder isn't a good idea to photgraph anyway, it's not as stable and you will get some blurry shots on lower light situations.
Impossible. The D80 is an SLR which means there is a real shutter curtain blocking the imaging array, essentially 'blindfolding' the array. It cannot see the image until the shutter is opened. Nikon just introduced a new SLR that can do live view mode, if you want to spend a couple of grand.

LCD monitor does not light up, and consequently, does not display any image (as some other digital cameras do) during the aiming and focusing processes - sort of prescanning the image - before the shutter is half-way then fully pressed. Actually the reason is due to the way an SLR works. The shutter doesn't open up to the CCD device (the digital equivalent of the film) until you press the shutter release button to take the shot. Until then, an angled mirror points the viewed image u ... Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

The LCD Monitor of my Canon PowerShot A95 shows purple, white, and black horizontal lines instead of a clear image of what is in the Viewfinder. Pictures taken while showing up this way on the LCD Monitor turn out with the same fuzzy stripes. The focal length on my Nikon S52 Coolpix seems to be much shorter than it was originally. No matter the adjustment I make to the settings, at least part of the photo is extremely blurry. I have tried both with Auto-Focus on and off, but there is always a small square in the center of the view finder, and this is only region that shows a focused image. The camera used to produce sharp images throughout the picture. How can I adjust this?
