D80 Nikon - dark in viewfinder

\015 When I look through my new-ish D80 Nikon everything is quite dark, kind of gray diffused, with area focus lines and squares showing. If I take a picture, it is way too bright. I have tried both my lenses...same trouble. There is a red warning light just before the picture is taken.\015\012What have I done? Is it broken? Is there a simple solution?\015

Answers :

What you see through the viewfinder is not exactly what you get in your picture. It is possible that your settings are just off in the camera. To make sure that this is the problem, set your settings to Auto and try again.
\015\012
\015\012The red light before the picture is taken is a setting you can turn on to indicate that you have focused correctly. You can turn this off in the menu if this bothers you.
\015\012
\015\012Lastly, I do not think your camera is broken. You just need to read your manual to make sure your settings are correct when you take a picture. Hope this helps.

Nikon D80. It worked fine until recently (maybe after I took pictures during whale-watching in a heavy rain and camera got wet). Now the view in the viewfinder is kind of greyish and blurry. Focus area brackets in the viewfinder are now always visible and white. And when I half-press the shutter button the whole viewfinder flashes in red color. Basically, the camera still works and takes pictures, but it is hard to see through the viewfinder and it behaves very strangely.

I recently purchased the D80 and had no problems, it worked great and took magnificant shots. However, the other day I turned it on and the viewfinder was now, dark and out of focus. The battery was fully charged and the diopter adjustment failed to fix the problem. I also noted that there was a square in the upper right viewfider that was clear and in focus, just like the entire viewfinder used to be. Of note, it still takes clear, sharp, in-focus shots, it's just that the view in the viewfinde
