Having problems with your Nikon D90 Digital Camera with 18-105mm lens ?

Nikon D90 rear curtain sync will shoot flash twice

\015 Hi, I just got a new Nikon D90. When I try to shoot using a slow rear curtain sync I get two flash shots, one at the beginning of the exposure and another at the end. Bottom line, when shooting moving objects I don't get the moving effect 'cos the first flash freezes the image giving the illusion the object is moving backwards (as if I was using a front curtain sync) .Any suggestions on how to prevent this first flash burst and leave only the flash shot at the end of the exposure?P.S. This was using manual controls.ThanksAlberto Aristeguieta\015

Answers :

That is most likely the TTL preflash and should not show up in your final exposure.

Try setting the flash control to manual (e2 under the Bracketing/Flash menu). That should give you only the one flash at the end.

I also thought that this was a problem, but it isn't. The first flash you see actually fires before the curtain opens. It is a pre-flash that helps measure the intensity of the flash needed. It does not show up in your photo. The second flash is the actual flash that takes your picture.

D90 flash I just bought a new Nikon D90 and I was on a shoot and the built in flash popped up (in bright sun in manual mode) and I cannot get it to stay down. the camera will work but only to 200 shutter speed. if I hold the flash down then it will work at all shutter speeds. Hi, I've just recieved my nikon d90 back from a repair and service, and although everything appears to be working fine, whenever I want to change shooting modes,( auto, P, M, flash off etc), they only work once I have selected them, and then turned the camera off and back on. In other words I cannot be shooting in the Auto mode and then switch to "flash off auto"....all that happens is that the auto focus works but the shutter will not operate. If I switch the camera off and on however, I can t

I have a Nikon D90 with 18-105 mm lens. Lately, the onboard flash has not been firing even when I try to enforce it by having the flash popped up. It will only fire if I do one of the following: 1) unmount the lens from the camera body and then re-mount it back on, which the flash will fire maybe once or twice and that's it!, or 2) switch on a different lens which definitely works with the flash firing every single time. What needs to be done? I purchased this lens last December (2009). Is

This has nothing to do with the camera, but instead it has to do with the lens you are using. The standard lens you are using has an aperture of f/4.5 which is common across many lenses. If you wish to shoot in low light you need a lower "f-stop". ... Nikon D90 Digital Camera with 18-105mm lens

My d90 flashes an err sign somtimes when i shoot at manual mode.. but when i change my apperture and shutter speed setting, it will not appear anymore. Even at auto mode sometimes it flashes an err. Does the d90 flashes an error when you made wrong setting in your apperture and shutter speed?

On page 256 of the D-90 user manual it says that an ERR message indicates a camera malfunction and that the malfunction can be cleared by releasing the shutter. I found that the only way I could release the shutter is to turn the camera off and back ... Nikon D90 Digital Camera with 18-105mm lens

I was somehow roped into shooting a friend's night wedding this weekend, even though my photography "expertise" is entirely limited to shooting in natural light. I am a total amateur (and my friend knows this - I have told her over and over she's taking a big risk). So anyway, I've rented a flash and bracket and am looking for any/all the cram-style tips you can give me for programming the flash (it's a Nikon speedlight SB-800 on a D70) and the camera for best use. Thanks :)

First, you MUST practice with the flash before you shoot the wedding. If at all possible arrive 2-3 hours before the ceremony with a friend/model to pose for you so you can practice with the settings until you understand what will and will not work. ... Nikon Digital Cameras

Compare the Nikon d80 to the new d90. Can I use all my manual focus lenses from my Nikon film cameras? Also, all my filters and flashes.
