Nikon D90 flash not working - Nikon D90 Digital Camera with 18-105mm lens

Hello Loretta

There are basically 3 things that can cause a flash not to fire when required in assenting order of probability.

\015\012
    \015\012
  1. The settings are incorrect.
  2. \015\012
  3. The flash bulb has blown
  4. \015\012
  5. The capacitor for the flash has started leaking or has blown.
Okay , a guy with a camera like this knows how to set the settings.

If\015\012the bulb never flashes its probably but not necessarily the flash bulb.\015\012If you can locate the last picture that the flash was working, have a\015\012look if its underexposed or overexposed , this can give a clue as to\015\012what happened.

Also , have a look at the metadata of a picture\015\012where the flash does not work , by selecting the photo , right clicking\015\012and selecting properties and then details under flash , and see what\015\012was written there as some camera's can report when the flash bulb did\015\012not fire but the charge was delivered.

Lastly , take a picture\015\012where you know the flash is supposed to fire and keep your ear to the\015\012flash. Do you hear the sharp sound of the capasitor charging?

This\015\012info will help us to determine the source of the problem and thus the\015\012solution , so get back to me on that and we can move forward from there.

Kind Regards
Stephan

I have a Nikon D90 with 18-105 mm lens. Lately, the onboard flash has not been firing even when I try to enforce it by having the flash popped up. It will only fire if I do one of the following: 1) unmount the lens from the camera body and then re-mount it back on, which the flash will fire maybe once or twice and that's it!, or 2) switch on a different lens which definitely works with the flash firing every single time. What needs to be done? I purchased this lens last December (2009). Is

I'm a new user of the D90 (and digital in general), and on my first major trip with it I had problem with the shutter not working. I would take some images, put the camera down without turning it off and move on to the next spot. At the second stop the camera would not work. I'd turn it off, remove the battery, run the lens in and out and eventually it would work again. The message I got was F--, which said that the lens was not installed properly. However the lens was never removed. What's
