Having problems with your Nikon D90 Digital Camera with 18-105mm lens ?

I bought a Nikon D90 a few weeks ago. It worked

\015 I bought a Nikon D90 a few weeks ago. It worked perfectly for the first couple of weeks and then started to work intermittently (on a trip to Paris, of course). When you pressed the shutter down, nothing would happen. You could view photos alright and everything else seemed fine. Then, it would start to work for a while - everything would be fine, then nothing the next time you pressed the shutter down. We tried turning it off and back on, taking the battery out - sometimes these work work, other times not. Very frustrating. Any ideas? Gary McMillen\015

Answers :

Your camera may be faulty. Or you might not be "in focus". The D90 in any of the auto modes won't take a picture if the 'in-focus indicator' isn't on.\015\012If that indicator is blinking, then it means that it is not able to focus on the subject. It's all in the user manual.
As this is so new and so obviously faulty, there's no point in mucking about. Return the camera to the retailer for a refund or replacement. If you're based in the UK note that your Sale of Goods Act rights to reject the camera are severely diminished if you accept any attempt to repair the fault.

Intermittent faults are a pain to trace and repair, and any unauthorised attempt to fix the camera yourself will invalidate both the Nikon warranty and your Sale of Goods Act rights. The only thing you can try is to see if there are any firmware updates, but your fault is not a known firmware issue and so it's not likely to be worthwhile.

We use a Nikon D200 to do child portraiture in preschools and day care centers. Our original camera started turning some images blue a couple weeks ago then quit working altogether. I bought a barely used D200 online and went back to work and I am getting images in either magenta or blue. What could cause this?

It seems to me that Nikon Point & Shoot cameras, or at least the last 2 that I have bought, have a usable life span of approx 4 or so years before the LCD's decide not to work in turn, makes the camera non usable. Have Nikon Coolpix 885 dig. camera, bought in 2000, still works OK. I had been transferring the photos to my old computer using "Nikon View" 5 version 5.0.0 software that came with the camera and my Windows XP operating system with no problems.
