Answers :

In Auto mode the flash will only fire when the camera thinks it needs it.

Only in the PASM modes do you get to decide whether to use the flash or not.

Hi, can I first ask do you charge a fee for your help. If not, can you help with the following problem? I've recharged the battery for my Canon 40D and placed it back in the camera. The red light flickers and then no power at all. I've done this a couple of times thinking it may be the battery but the last time I tried it then flashed red and a blue light at the same time. This blue light is the printer light next to the Menu button. I don't know how to fix this? Can you help? Thanks.

Try replacing the battery. If the battery has gone bad, charging it will do no good. If it is a new battery, you may have faulty battery terminals in your camera, the memory card switch may be bad, or some other internal failure may have occurred. ... Canon EOS 40D Digital Camera

My EOS 400D flash sometimes pops up in bright daylight in full auto mode. I sent it back to Cannon who returned it saying no fault found. I then began to think that the problem was the way I held the camera and that I may be obscuring the (light?) sensor near the grip with my hand. After not using the camera for a while I am now taking shots again and the flash pop up problem has re-appeared. I am now sure I am not blocking the sensor. Any ideas?

In full auto mode, the camera tries to use fill flash, when it detects a backlit scene (e.g. a person in front of a window). So this is not a bug, it's a feature! If you don't want the flash to fire, you can push it down and still take the shot. ... Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens

Flash has stopped working on my Nikon D40. I've tried a factory reset, tried to get to the flash setting but that menu option is no longer available (highlighted) in any mode. I'm thinking it's broken and not a setting thing. Everything else works fine and it still takes pictures just without the flash. The flash pops up when needed but no flash obviously.

There's a common problem in the flash arm. I found this link that shows a simple repair. If you use this and make the repair yourself, understand that you will void your warranty if you have one. Nikon D50, digital SLR, I was using my camera at a wedding and the flash just stopped working. The camera thinks the flash is going off - it pops up and takes them quickly but no light goes off.... do these cameras have traditional 'bulbs' could it be as simple as the bulb has blown and it needs a new one? or am i looking at something bigger than that? I am normally an old school film camera person - i dont know much about this at all... thanks kathleen

I have a canon rebel xti with an 18 to 55 lens .. I recently bought an external flash to sit in the hot shoe .. now when I removed the flash from the hot shoe .. the cameras own flash will not pop up and work... I can manually pop the flash but it still will not work..  I thought that when I bought the flash at the camera store the sales person turned off something on the camera for the new flash to work.. is there something I need to change in the menus to get the cameras own flash to work.....

I had the same problem. \015\012Look closely at the hotshoe. Inside it, way over to the side, under one of the tabs on the side, is a tiny metal strip. I have a Nikon Coolpix 3.6x. When I plug the cord in the camera to load the pictures into my computer, I then turn on the camera, the camera goes *beep*, the monitor flashes on a second. then goes back off. I've checked the cord connection into my computer and put new batteries in my camera. It has done this before, when I deleted the pictures from my camera. It was something between the scene and playback buttons I think, but I can't seem to straighten it out. Can you help?

Hi, I have just bought the Panasonic FZ45 and seem to have a problem with the flash. It will not pop up automatically when in "IA" mode. The display actually shows the symbol indicating that the flash is forced off. Have tried to change this using the REC set up menu but to no avail (incidentally the option to force the flash off appears in the user manual, but not on the REC menu). I have searched some of the forums on the web and it has been suggested that the FZ45 does not have an auto fla

I have a Vivitar Camera that I bought from a Pawn Shop. The Flash worked fine for the first few months having it. I didn't use it for a while, and once I finally did, I heard 3 pops. After that my flash no longer works. When I switch into Flash mode it blinks and goes back to No Flash mode. Do you think it's the flash tube, the circuit or the battery that charges the flash? I opened the camera and nothing looks blown.

I have a Nikon D90 with 18-105 mm lens. Lately, the onboard flash has not been firing even when I try to enforce it by having the flash popped up. It will only fire if I do one of the following: 1) unmount the lens from the camera body and then re-mount it back on, which the flash will fire maybe once or twice and that's it!, or 2) switch on a different lens which definitely works with the flash firing every single time. What needs to be done? I purchased this lens last December (2009). Is
