Having problems with your Olympus FE-170 Digital Camera ?

The lense is frozen open and I can't access any menu.

\015 A few weeks ago I took some photos and downloaded them to my computer, but the camera back in it's bag. Yesterday, I took the camera out of its bag, turned it on and the lense telescoped and froze open with this on the screen: \015\012D :5f0882338234I can't close the lense and I can't shoot photos nor access the menu of the camera etc. I've recharged the battery but it has made no difference. I'm puzzed. The camera is less than a year old and hasn't gotten much use. It's been kept in it's case when not in use and it hasn't been abused.\015

Hello Robin,

Try using a compressed air on the lens area as there might be something stuck and jamming the lens. Also, do this as workaround:

Hold the camera on your right hand with the lens facing the ground. As you press the power on button, tap or hit the camera's base to your left palm. Do this 3 times until the lens gets unjammed.

Now, if the above solution does not work, then since it is less than a year, you can avail the warranty of this camera to save you cost of repair. If they found out that this is a recall, then they can even replace the camera.

Good luck!

I have a Sigma 18-200 3.5-6.3 lense and use it on a Canon xTi Rebel. The lense is a year old and have recently noticed that at the 18mm focal length that the f stop no longer opens up to 3.5 but only to f4. I have not dropped or jarred the lense. Also I have noticed that at the 200mm focal length the f stop opens up to 5.6 not the 6.3. Any advise would be appreciated. Jim Caldwell

I have tried this numerous time, tried recharging battery, taking battery in and out, to no avail? Any suggestions?

Lense error- can hear lense trying to open, but lense does not come out of the camera body. This is weird because the camera was not dropped/hit/damaged. I used the camera to take night images of a rising moon. It took pics fine, but about an hour later when I tried to turn the camera on to review the pics, I got the lense error as noted above. 4 days later, same problem. The manual doesn't have any troubleshooting for this problem. Any suggestions? Anyone.....? Thanks for your time!
