The methods are listed in the order of risk of\015\012damaging your camera. Thus make sure you try them in the listed order.\015\012And remember, these fixes (especially #6 and 7) should\015\012only be considered for a camera that's out of warranty, who's cost of\015\012repair would be excessive, and would otherwise be considered for\015\012disposal if unrepaired: \015\012
\015\012Fix #1:\015\012Remove the batteries from the camera, wait a few minutes. Put a fresh\015\012set of batteries back in (preferably rechargeable NiMH 2500mah or\015\012better) and turn the camera on. \015\012
Fix #2:\015\012Remove the batteries, then remove the memory card. Then install the new\015\012batteries, when you turn it on it should come back to life. Error E30\015\012means you don't have a memory card installed, so turn it off, slip in\015\012the memory card and turn it on one last time.

Fix #3:\015\012Insert the cameras Audio/Video (AV) cable, and turn the camera on.\015\012Inserting this cable ensures that the camera's LCD screen remains off\015\012during the start process. Thus extra battery power is available to the\015\012camera's lens motor during startup. This extra power can be useful in\015\012overcoming grit or sand particals that may be jamming the lens. If the\015\012AV cable doesn't fix the lens error by itself, consider keeping this\015\012cable installed while trying fixes 4, 5, and 7 as a means to provide\015\012extra help to these fixes. But note that I DON'T recommend keeping the\015\012cable installed during Fix 6 as you may damage the AV port while\015\012tapping the camera. Reinsert the cable only AFTER tapping the camera.

Fix #4:\015\012Place the camera flat on its back on a table, pointed at the ceiling.\015\012Press and hold the shutter button down, and at the same time press the\015\012power-on button. The idea is that the camera will try to autofocus\015\012while the lens is extending, hopefully seating the lens barrel guide\015\012pins in their slots.

Fix #5: Blow compressed\015\012air in the gaps around the lens barrels with the idea of blowing out\015\012any sand or grit that may be in there jamming the lens. Other\015\012variations include blowing with a hair dryer in “no heat” setting, or\015\012sucking the gaps with a vacuum (careful with this one).

\015\012Now\015\012we're entering into the realm of potentially damaging your camera in\015\012conducting the fix. There is definitely some risk here, so take care\015\012when conducting the following two fixes.\015\012
Fix #6:\015\012Repeatedly tap the padded/rubber usb cover on a hard surface with the\015\012intent of dislodging any particles that may be jamming the lens. Other\015\012variations include hitting a side of the camera against the palm of\015\012your hand. A lot of people have reported success with this method.\015\012HOWEVER, there is also some potential for damaging or dislodging\015\012internal components with this method, such as unseating ribbon cables,\015\012or cracking LCD screens.

Fix #7: Try forcing\015\012the lens. More people have reported success with this method than with\015\012any of the other methods. HOWEVER, there's obviously some potential for\015\012damaging your camera by using this method. Variations include gently\015\012pulling, rotating, and/or twisting the lens barrel while hitting the\015\012power button. Attempt to gently straighten or align the barrel if it's\015\012crooked or twisted. Another variation includes looking for uneven gaps\015\012around the lens barrel, and then pushing on the side of the lens barrel\015\012that has the largest gap (note pushing the lens barrel all the way in\015\012is NOT recommended as it may become stuck there). While doing any of\015\012the above, listen for a click that indicates that the lens barrel guide\015\012pins may have reseated in their guide slots. If you hear this click,\015\012immediately stop and try the camera. The following photo illustrates\015\012unseated guide pins that would cause a lens error.
Hello,
There's no easy fix for this I'm afraid. I had LX1 and LX2 with exactly the same problem caused by the same thing. On both the issue was due to broken plastic guides on the inner lens barrel. (The guides move in the grooves on inner lens barrel when zooming/extending). There are three guides-if just one breaks you might be able to extend the lens but most probably won't be able to focus and the lens barrel will wobble. In my case I tried various tricks to fix it, including moulding new guides and gluing them onto the inner lens barrel-none worked 100%. In both cases I ended up getting donor cameras from ebay and swapping the lenses and this is what I would suggest. LX2 is relatively easy to dismantle and put together.
Good luck,
Raf

It stopped going forward and has become stuck in what appears to be the furthest-extended position. There does not appear to be any particulates obstructing the lens barrel as far
