Having problems with your Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 Digital Camera ?

Doesn't power up. Lens cover doesn't open, lens doesn't open

\015 I've tried charging the battery and reinserting it. Then I go to put the carera ON and the lens cover does NOT open and the lens does not expand. So, naturally I can't do anything from that point on. THANK YOU\015

Well, I'm not sure if I can solve it but I did have a similar problem with my out of warranty TZ3. One day it just died - wouldn't power up, no display, nothing. I tried changing batteries, re-inserting them, recharging, checking contacts but to no avail. Nothing. I did some research online and found that there were a few others out there with the same problem and the fix was basically to throw it away and buy a new camera. The cost of having digital compacts professionally repaired these days is such that you may as well spend a little bit extra to get the latast model.
\015\012That being the case I figured I may as well dismantle it and see if there was anything obvious that I could do. It's not that difficult and if you are reasonably careful and comforable with components and printed circuit boards you won't have any problems. It turned out the problem with mine was one of the ribbon cables that connnects to the PCB that runs along the top of the camera - the connector is just below the on/off switch. It had come partially detached from the connector. I re-made the connection, re-assembled the camera and it all worked perfectly. And the good news was there were no components or screws left over - amazing.
\015\012More good news - I saved myself a few hundred dolllars. The bad news, I don't get to buy that TZ5 that I had almost justified purchasing. Good luck. If you need help dismantling the camera the service manual at http://tsn.pasc.panasonic.com/viewing/ALL/DMC-TZ3P/SVC/DSC0703019CE_PRINTB/DSC0703019CE.pdf

I have a canon Power Shot S50. The mechanical slider that covers the lens is loose. When I open it, it doesn't power up the camera. I suspect there is a switch underneath the cover is broken.

A classic one... so it seems, but I could not find an answer here or elsewhere. My Lumix DMC-FP1 normally can be turned on by either opening the lens cover or by pushing the 'ON' button. It does not any longer recognize the fact that the lens cover IS open. When pushing ON it comes back with message "Please open lense cover", even with cover open. Yes the thing did fall ... I have downloaded service/repair manual but there are no hints on how to fix. Can it be fixed? That is the question.
