Hi, I've a Sigma 28-105mm aspherical 3.5-5.6 lens. Auto focus does not engage. I can hear the motor trying, but the ring does not turn. When I switch to manual focus, I can turn the ring to focus manually, but I still hear the motor trying to use autofocus. Additionally, sometimes the shutter will not fire in manual focus while the motor is still searching. I've cleaned the contacts, but no joy. I suspect a faulty switch, but that doesn't completely explain the autofocus not engaging. I am
Well, I think you have at least one problem pinpointed, in that I suspect the focusing ring is jammed, and cannot rotate with the electromagnet signals. The other problem might be a faulty auto/manual switch. Of course, check for oxidation and e ... Digital Cameras

My Canon powershot A1100 IS is not focusing at all. The lens extends when turned on, but when it tries to focus (when set to "Auto"), I hear a clicking sound, as if the motor is trying to adjust the lens, but is not. It sounds like a more serious repair and probably not worth fixing. Anybody have any thoughts what this may be and whether to fix or toss? Thanks! A. Nadell

My D80 was purchased in April 2008 along with the Nikkor 18-200mm VR zoom lens. The camera and lens worked flawlesly until this past week end. The cameral stopped focusing in auto mode with no warning. I did hear a whining noise when I tried a Tamron 11-18mm wide angle lens. The auto focus did not work with that lens either.

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT camera using a 75-300mm telephoto lens. My problem with the lens is that at times it is hard to adjust the focus either manually or automatically with the camera. I hear something rattling around inside the lens and at times the lens will not auto-focus and I have to remove the lens and manually twist it to get it back to some normal operation. Is this fixable or do I need a new lens?
It sounds like the lens has been dropped or knocked and is misaligned in the guides.Repair against new lewns is a difficult one as prices vary. I would perhaps consider replacing it with a used one. Before you do borrow a similar lens from some ... Canon Digital Cameras
I have a D90 and I just got, used, a 50 mm f/1.4 D lens. The lens motor sounds like it is working, but only moves the lens a small amount. Not enough to properly auto focus. It will manually focus, but the movement is not as free as another 50 mm lens I compared it to. Yes, I could bring it back, but if there is a simple fix, I'd like to do that.

I have a D5000 camera w/ kit lens VR 55-200, less than a year old. Recently and only occasionally what is happening is when I press the shutter release button, the lens won't focus, it won't move in or out and it makes a odd noise, not the usual lens motor noise, but an odd squeaking noise, like it's trying to move but is stuck. The only way to correct it is to either shut the camera off and turn it back on again, or switch to manual focus, then back to auto. The battery is full, so it's not

When using my d80 (no matter what lens is on it) it just keeps trying to focus and will not take the picture. It was fine on Sun and then Tue wham!! I can not think of doing anything to it and no one has touched it. You can hear the motor as the lens is trying to focus. If I focus manual no problem except a lot of the photos may still be blurry (that could be me)

Good Morning I went hiking in broad daylight this past weekend and the autofocus would not work. I have a Canon 40D with a TAmron 18-270. I used av, tv, p, m and auto and I could not autofocus the camera. All I could do is to switch to manual focus to get it to work. When the lens was set to AF all you could is hear is it racking back and forth tying to focus. VERY FRUSTRATING.. Any ideas of what it may be or a setting I might have set accidentally. Any help is appreciated. Bob

I was using my Nikon D40 at son's baseball game with the 55-200 mm lens & was too close to the fence when zooming since it tapped the fence. Now it makes a squeaky noise when trying to auto focus. Lens Problem I have a C-8080 and I like it but I'm not sure if it is working 100%. The lens barrel is sloppy from side to side and clunks slightly when moving it quickly. It has been that way since it was new. It has some issues with auto focus as well. It has a hard time focusing on clouds and soft objects at infinity. I called Olympus when I bought the camera and mentioned the sloppy lens barrel and they told me that that is the way there made. It is slow to focus when going from close objects
