"memory card error" Tried a new card but it did not work.

First\015\012 check that you are using an SD card with a capacity which does not \015\012exceed 2GB as that is the maximum your camera can handle and it will \015\012give error messages with larger capacities, especially if you have \015\012fitted a later specification (incompatible) SDHC card.

If you need one, you may download a free user manual for your camera by clicking here.

If you are using the correct type and capacity of memory card then this\015\012 is such a common question that I hope you don't mind if I paste my \015\012generic answer below. Note that cards may appear to be unlocked when \015\012they're not. The answer also covers what to do if the card is faulty.

Your\015\012 camera uses SD memory cards. On one edge is a slider switch: towards \015\012the electrical contacts is the unlocked position and away from them is \015\012locked.

Unfortunately, the switch is easy to move accidentally \015\012and it's also easy for it to appear to be unlocked when it isn't. Like \015\012any mechanical component it's also possible for the switch to fail.

If\015\012 the switch is in the locked position then slide it fully to the \015\012unlocked position; if it's already in the unlocked position, slide it \015\012fully to the locked position and then fully back again. There should be a\015\012 soft click at each end of the switch travel, if not then the switch is \015\012definitely faulty or obstructed.

If that fails, then try looking \015\012closely at the switch in both positions to ensure that there is no \015\012debris obstructing its movement, if not then check the electrical \015\012contacts to ensure that they're completely clean and grease-free. Don't \015\012touch the contacts with your bare skin, but if the contacts need \015\012cleaning then a cotton bud (Q-tip) moistened with a little alcohol or \015\012methylated spirits can be used to clean them.

If you still have \015\012no fix, then try a different SD card as yours may have an irreparable \015\012faulty switch. If the card does prove to be faulty then on most major \015\012brands you may be able to return them to the manufacturer for exchange: \015\012I've found that they will often do this on a goodwill basis even if the \015\012card is out of warranty. Just check the manufacturer's website for support details.

If all options regarding the memory \015\012card are unsuccessful, then you have a faulty camera and further \015\012remedies require either a professional repair or replacement of the \015\012camera.

I hope that my free answer has been of use and has given \015\012you options to fix your problem. Please let me know by taking a brief \015\012moment to rate my \015\012reply. If your problem has not been fixed, then please add a comment instead and I will suggest another solution for you.

Card error I have a e-1. Two memory cards with 1 and 2 gb. I get a "card error" message when I insert either into the camera. I brought it to one camera shop. They said that a couple of the pins (that connect the memory card to the brains of the camera) were bent. Recently took it to another repair shop and he inserted a card with less memory and the camera worked. Is it the cards or the camera? Will the camera work (with bent pins or whatever) if I get a new memory card?
