Having problems with your Ricoh Caplio R5 Digital Camera ?

Camera jam Ricoh Caplio R5 - tried to switch it on to take a picture, and lens came out part way but the camera then switched off. Flat battery perhaps, so charged battery overnight and tried again with similar results. Lens still part way out, maybe some whirring noises, screen flashes but then camera switches off. Any ideas? Dead battery / broken charger? - or problem with camera? And how to check (I only have the one battery)

Answers :

All the R series Ricohs have a pretty complicated lens system employing 2 swing-out lenses which can get stuck pretty easily, or worse, broken. If you are very good at taking things to bits you might have a go at fixing it (I've done several that were not TOO bad) since picking up one on Ebay with a good lens unit is almost impossible.

Zoom Error Just bought an Olympus SP550 Ultra Zoom for my daughter. In less than 24 hours the cam developed a problem. When she turns it on, the zoom lens goes part way out, a message "zoom error" shows on the screen, and it powers itself off. We thought it might just be the batteries, but new ones didn't help. Similar problem with SP-560UZ On power up lens clicks & sticks when zooms out. Then get "zoom error" & powers off. Tried new batteries, helping lens out. Leaving batteries out. Could not

I think a grain of sand was blocking the zoom tubes. This will not work if the camera has been dropped & the zoom apparatus is bent. It is entirely at your own risk & may invalidate any guarantee but they may charge anyway if you have got san ... Digital Cameras

I have a new (Dec., 2009) D90. This morning I discovered that I had an "Err" message and a "CHA" message. Both were on the LCD panel on the top of the camera. I was not able to turn the camera off, and the only way to turn it off was to take out the battery. Upon reinserting the battery, everything appeared normal, but after taking one shot the problem reappeared. The interesting thing was that I took the camera body to a Nikon certified shop in New York, and they tried it with a different lens,

The battery of my samsung s860 was recently dead so i though that was why the lens wouldnt go out all the way. I have tried two new sets of batteries and the camera is reacting the same way. The lense wont go out all the way, a blurry image is projected on the screen then the screen goes black, the green light flickers, it beeps rather obnoxiously three times and the lens retracks again as it turns off. can my camera be resuscitated!?

Lens Error My cameras battery was low but I kept taking pictures until the camera shut off by itself. The lens didn't retract all the way and now when I try to turn my camera on it makes a clicking noise like the lens wants to move but it doesn't and on the back screen it states a lens error. I am not sure how to resolve this problem I have charged the battery and taken it out. I unfortunately do not have the manual on me.

Lens stuck I have had this problem twice with this camera, the first time I exchanged the camera for a new one. The second time the batteries went dead and the lens was out. It won't turn on and makes this beeping noise when I do try to turn it on. I tried changing out the batteries, but nothing seems to help.

My camera is a new purple polaroid 1834, I got it for Christmas. I tried to take a picture the other day and it took one, and then shut down with the lens still out. It will not turn on, and everytime I press the power button a green light flashes and it beeps three times, but nothing else happens. I have tried replacing the batteries with brand new ones..still nothing. I've tried to batteries and everything. What is going on and what can I do to fix it? Is it fixable?

It is fixable but best thing to do is take it back to where you got it for a replacement. Or send it in to Polaroid the lens gears are stuck and the zoom motor sounds like it has gone out. If you have no sucess doing that then let me kno ... Digital Cameras

When you press the power on button the camera lens starts to move out stops goes in then out again stops the screen does not illuminate at all.IF you then press the power button the lens tries to retract slightly but then stops and again nothing else happens. battery is fully charged. if you press the replay button screen and camera behaves as normal and you can view the pictures taken lens usually retracts all the way to its docked position again if it was nearly all the way out.

My Canon PowerShot SD850 IS has a lens that is stuck in the extended position. I get a screen that says lens error, restart camera, but when I try to connect to the software, I get a screen on the computer telling me the computer cannot detect the camera. Powershot A640 Could Not Be Powered On, Burnt Smell My Powershot A640 died during a picture shot, lens remaining open. I thought it may be due to the dead batteries. My 2 year old son dropped the my husband's Canon G11 twice while it was open with the lens out. Now the lens won't retract or the shutter close. It gives me a 'lens error, restart camera' message and won't restart. I tried taking out the battery for a few minutes and replacing it and reopening the camera, but to no avail. I'm afraid of taking it to someone and having it opened as I know that the chances of damaging it that way are bigger. Please provide me with your soonest reply. Rania
