Having problems with your Sanyo Digital Cameras ?

My computer does not recognize the camera anymore, and when I insert the camera's usb cord into my usb port, it says "power surge on USB port. This only happens with my camera, not any other USB device.

It's possible that the sequence or work flow is upsetting the computer, I know sounds odd but, without the camera hooked up the the computer does it appear to be working okay? If so are you downloading (attempting to download) the pictures directly to your computer hard drive meaning not going through the camera programing software? What I'm going to suggest is two things first make a new folder in your "My Documents" I'm assuming you have PC with XP home edition or newer. I use the Year Month Day as file names. Then check make sure your camera has sufficient power for a download. turn the camera off connect the USB cable to the computer then to the camera and turn the camera on. If you get the warrning then shut the camera off and go to plan "B" if no warring what should have happened is the computer sees a new device searches for a driver and connects to teh camera. Sometimes an icon will come onto the desktop with a drive letter maybe a "D" or "F", that file will be the camera memory card file you can open this which should show the pictures files, it'll also show the corrupt files that started this whole mess in the first place. Now click on the top left thumbnail then select all copy then past this in the new folder you just made in "My Documents".

Once there the files can be opened ether in your Windows editing program or the camera editing program(s). Now don't just unplug the USB cable because the camera and or the computer will not like that and cause even more problems, what you need to do is a safe/eject of the device. Once done disconnect the USB cable from the computer and the camera.

Comes the good part now format the camera memory card always format the memory card in the camera in which it's going to be used this cleans the memory card much the same way as defrauding your computer hard drive but in a much smaller scale. You didn't give me the model of the camera so i can give you details of what page in the manual to follow for formatting a memory card.

Okay all that fails because the computer says "power surge" what I'm going to suggest is buying a camera memory card reader the reader is the greatest device made for digital downloads from cameras. It completely does away with the camera buying the right one for your memory card is inexpensive plugs into the USB port and everything is good to go once you insert the memory card into the reader the computer looks at it as an external hard drive and you can download your pictures files into that new folder you made in "My Documents"

Don't forget to format the memory card once you it back into the camera.

Took a short novel to write but believe it or not it only takes a few seconds to download.

Cheers Happy New Year
