Are you shooting in low light? Sometimes the flash will fire multiple short bursts to aid in focusing. If the camera is not in focus, then depending upon your setting it will not fire.

I was taking test photos around the house with my new camera and the flash won't fire properly (the flash pops up out of the camera but it makes little sparking sounds and flickering on and off). I've tried various modes including auto night etc but it won't stop flickering (just sparking sounds and a flickering flash like a light bulbs does just before it blows).also I have tried taking images using the basic auto mode in a low lit area and the flash pops up but does not fire.

My D80 suddenly stopped taking photos while I was in Auto mode. I noticed the flash stopped releasing. I've changed lenses, reset the camera's green buttons, switched out the card, reset the clock. It will occasionally take a photo, not necessarily in focus, and the flash will on occasion pop, but I can't figure out what the correct triggers are. Can anyone help? Lens is 18-135mm. Set Lens in in "A" and camera is in "AF"mode. Thanks much.

It turns white when I turn it on and when I take a photo with flash black lines appear all in the photo. I've tried finding a reset button, but nothing has been found. As I said, it takes photos, but I need the LCD screen to take a photo so I can see if I messed up and should take more. I'm a photographer and I got this camera as a side kick to my DS

Many picture moments are missed because of this!
