Having problems with your Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S90 Digital Camera ?

I have new batteries in, and I am able to preview pictures, but when I change the dial to take a pic or a movie it shuts off like it is out of batteries.

Answers :

Let me explain technically whats happening in your camera.
Camera shuts off in protection mode because lens loading motor is jammed / stuck for some reason and consume more current than its rating, protection circuit sense it and shuts off camera to avoid damage in power supply section.
Below exploded view shows loading motor location in lens assembly.
Please replace lens assembly to correct this problem because loading motor is not available as individual part, or if you are handy with electronics stuff repair then apart camera and inspect loading motor and its gears that why it got stuck/ jammed and try to fix it.
Let me know if you need lens assembly part number info.

Hi, the problem with these camera's is that they are realy high power and normal batterie's you buy in super markets are just not powerfull enough to allow you to take pictures, the kind of batterie's you need to buy a lithium ion batteries now these are expensive to buy and will only allow you to take about 60 pictures before they go flat.
\015\012One way of getting the battery to last is to stop using the screen switch it off and use it like one of the old camera's without a screen this will allow you to take over 150 pictures before the battery goes flat.
\015\012Now another option you have is if you go into a camera shop near you and ask them what would be the best rechargeable batteries for your make and model they will then be able to sell you high power batteries that can be charged up these will save a fortune in the long run so this would be the best solution.
\015\012normal panasonic or duracell bats just aren't strong enough to power these camera's they just use to much power so try switching to high power rechargable bats and you should find you will have no problems.
\015\012Now the next time you purchase a camera try and buy one that comes with a battery pack instead of putting your own batts in as these come with their own charger and you should be able to take about 200 pictures before the batt goes flat so this would be a good option if your buying a new camera, they may cost slightly more but in the long term they pay for themselves as you are not buying batteries every time you use the camera.
\015\012So my answer to your problem would be either go out and by lithium batteries or rechargable batteries from a camera shop dont buy the rechargable batteries you see in your local super market as these are not high power output batts so probably wouldnt even switch your camera on, the best place would be camera shop or even computer shop as they should stock batteries for high input devices.
\015\012Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
