Having problems with your Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 Digital Camera ?

Lost pics HI, I can't find two pictures I just took, and when I took them, I flipped through my pictures to see them and they were stored with pictures I thought I had deleted, and I can't find the pics anywhere and they are important...how do I find them?

If you mean on the camera, it would be best to copy all pictures with a card reader (the reason is that the camera may not be able to copy corrupted files) and then look through them on the computer. It is possible that file corruption has happened. If that is the case, then you may have to rename them, if the name has changed. What is important to remember is that the file extension has to be .jpg or .JPG for normal pictures in most cameras, there are other file extensions used for larger and other format cameras. The rest of the file name is not that important, unless it means to have your pictures in order.
Also make a copy of the files affected, and rename them with a b or 2 or some way to tell the difference from the other originals.

If you mean on the computer, then make sure to look in the trash folder. If you do not find any files (note as above in the other notes) which have changed names or they are not there, and not in the trash folder, then something else has happened.

This kind of thing can happen if the camera is turned off before the files are written fully to the camera's memory. It cannot save, and thus the camera may not write anything at all to save the picture.

Another thing which you may want to look for is if the pictures could be in the internal memory and not on the card. Remove the card, and start the camera again, if the camera has internal memory. Some cameras have no internal storage ability.
If the pictures were deleted, there is no way to recover them.

As a precaution to preventing this kind of thing, always format the card you are going to use in the camera. Don't change the card to another kind of camera without reformatting it for use in the other camera. If you use a card formatted in another camera, it can cause not only very slow saving, but it can also cause corruption or deletion of files.
As another caution to remember along this line, copy your pictures often from the card or camera and don't let the card or camera get too full, so that you cannot save any more pictures or movie files. If the camera's memory or the card is too full, the camera has no way too save the files, and may cause corruption or other unknown problems. Usually a message will come on the camera's LCD that the camera's memory or the card is too full and cannot save any.
