Having problems with your Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 Digital Camera ?

When power is turned on the zoom lense moves in and out on its own for a couple of seconds then stops. Camera remains on (battery is charged) The message changes from "access" to "turn the power off and on again." When that is done the same process happens again. Photos can be retrieved that are in the memory to view but the problem is getting to the starting screen in order to take a picture. What's up with that? Hope you can help!

Answers :

This could be dust or lint or sand that has worked it's way into the lens assembly, and is keeping the lens from initializing. Often, you can take compressed air and blow it into the front lens assembly, to try to free up the small gears there. Here is a web blog that talks about things you can try to free it up, and fix it:

\015\012Even though the article says "lens error", it applies to lens problems, in general.

Pictures missing some (not all) of pictures taken end up missing from the camera ; they can't be viewed on the camera or loaded into my pc. I know the pics were there but missing later. this has happened with two separate memory cards so I know it's not a card problem. I've had the camersa a few years and this is the first problem. One of the memory cards intermittantly comes up with a "memory card error" message but not the card that was exclusively in use when the problem first showed itself.

If you haven't done so yet, take one of the cards, reformat it correctly (please ask again if you need info on how to do this) and see if you get any change.\015\012\015\012Are you using a PC card reader to transfer the photos or a USB cable?\015\012 ... Canon PowerShot S1 IS Digital Camera

The auto shake bars (all five of them) to the right of the view finder are blinking 4. Show 0 (zero) as the number of frames remaining in the view finder. 5. The problem is intermitte

Memory card I have an Olympus FE 220. I took a heap of photo's and when i went to view the photos it gave me the option to turn power off or format memory card. So I put the card into my lap top and it only gave me the option to format card. This has happened before. Does it have something to do with the battery getting low on the camera cause that is when it seems to happen.

I got my Canon a590 this past christmas; since then, every so often, it will not show any image on the screen. All I can see is the menu options. Every time I want to take a picture, all I get is absolute black. However, I can view pictures on a memory card with no problem on the main screen. The last 3-4 times this happened, the problem usually went away within a few days. I've tried replacing the batteries, but to no avail. Is my lens bad, or is it due to a more intricate problem?

Your camera should still be covered under the one year factory warranty. I would go to the Canon website and contact them for a covered repair if I were you.\015\012\015\012Best regards,\015\012Bob ... Canon PowerShot A590 IS Digital Camera

I have a Canon EOS 40D When I switch it on all appears fine. When I take a photo the shutter remains open & all power is lost. I then need to remove & re-install the battery to recover power. I can view existing photos on the memory card but as soon as I switch to take a photo & click the shutter, the above happens again. Before I decide next steps I was hoping someone out there could help.

See if the problem is related to the memory card. Start by ejecting the memory card and after saving to disk via card reader, format the card. If there is a problem writing to the card, it will probably show up during the format process. Or, inser ... Canon EOS 40D Digital Camera

My Canon SD 870 Camera came with a free SD card. Everything seems fine with the card until I try to download the pictures to my computer. I used the camera to format the card after the first time I had problems. I assumed this would fix it but it has happened again. I don't have problems with my other memory cards, just the one this camera came with. I can view the most recent pictures using the camera but how do I transfer the pictures to my computer? Thanks.
